Four years ago I moved to the woods of southern Oregon. I changed my name to @DougieLux, lived in an intentional community, learned how to restore an old, off-the-grid cabin, experienced how to live without the bells and whistles of modern life, and most importantly — besides learning what poison oak looks like in any season — I learned how to live with myself. When I finally stopped the leaks and plugged the mouse holes, I sat down in an old weathered armchair and wrote a book about the whole ridiculous experience.

And then, almost four years later to the day, a moment came when I realized that I’d so successfully simplified my life, so minimized regular human interaction, so greatly reduced my impact on the earth and reliance on external systems, that it no longer felt like a necessary or creative endeavor. I’d gotten what I came for and now I missed people. And flushing toilets and light switches. And just like that the experiment was over. It was time for me to return from the woods, to re-engage with the world, to once again redesign my human experience, incorporating the best of the old, and the best of the new, into the latest iteration of a fresh new self.

To celebrate this realization, and to firmly thrust the flag of my new direction into the earth, I spent the last few late nights updating ProjectFresh.com, my first and oldest website and portfolio of my life’s projects, to better reflect my current reality. Over the last twenty years I came from design school on the east coast, through a decade of event production in Los Angeles, into the woods and out again four years later, bursting forth into a whole new adventure as Chief Yeti at Rogue Media, a digital agency and business endeavor which I probably should have started a long, long time ago. But there’s a certain magic a person can experience when they hit their 40s, when they slow down and learn to pay attention to their joy, and realize in a moment of stark clarity what is no longer serving them. And so the next chapter begins.

ProjectFresh is dead. Long live ProjectFresh!

For those of you that have known me for a while, y For those of you that have known me for a while, you'll know that I have lived in some pretty memorable places over the last couple of decades. A giant party warehouse in Providence Rhode Island, hundreds of feet above the train yards of downtown Los Angeles in an old Edison Power Company building, a Burning Man community mansion in San Marino, a small off the grid cabin in the wilderness of Oregon in an intentional community, and now in a beautiful house overlooking a valley where my landlady is the lead singer for a Led Zeppelin tribute tribute band. On my first night there they did a live stream video and it felt like my own welcome party! How cool is that 😜‼️🤠‼️😜

It's been a fantastic few days of freshness. Got b It's been a fantastic few days of freshness. Got back to Oregon, rented an office in Medford for @roguemediagrp and found a new place to live in Talent for the next couple of months, in a beautiful house, much closer to my sweetie. My roommate is the front woman for a Led Zeppelin cover band. Oh, and I'm also in talks about selling my stake in @trilliumoregon ... Stay tuned, and thanks for the continued clarity and motion, COVID 19!
Maui, I will miss your rugged landscape and giant Maui, I will miss your rugged landscape and giant avocados. I recently received word that my gym's opened up again AND Starlink is now available in our area. Strong indication that is time to head home 💕🥰💕

Enjoyed this super simple flow chart from the 4-ho Enjoyed this super simple flow chart from the 4-hour work week. I've had my head down for the last 2 weeks solid over here, learning to outsource various tasks as well as starting an exciting new online business course for @roguemediagrp that's going to keep me super busy for the next few months and seriously boost the way I can support my clients achieve their dreams. I'm excited to learn some new tips and tricks!

Also, while all the lillicoi I can eat have been delicious and sweet doggie friends are lovely to have around, I'm getting a little homesick for my loved ones 💕 After all there's only so many sea turtles you can see while scuba diving until you're like, oh there's another sea turtle! Hahaha, okay that still hasn't lost its magic 😜 Will probably be heading back to Oregon soon...
Sometimes I make questionable life decisions... bu Sometimes I make questionable life decisions... but so far in 2021, I'm doing something right! My intentions for the year are health, wealth & prosperity and I pledge that every action, relationship and behavior (mostly!) move me in those directions.

I'm in the midst of a post holiday cleanse —closing back in on my pre-COVID weight... again— and landed three new web clients in the last week, all from a refreshingly peaceful, clean and civilized living situation in Maui, with way faster internet than my cabin in Oregon!

Some things that I've been doing to brush up on my behavior, in order to hone my body, mind and spirit:

- Cutting back down on the refined sugar and empty carbs (Holidays got impressively sloppy there for a minute!)

- Getting back to reading books instead of as much scrolling, TV/movie watching (finally diving into the 4-Hour Work Week book!)

- If I do watch video content, I'm trying to have it be more educationally based, such as tutorial videos about managing finances, or that apply to my business or skill set development. (Same with podcasts.)

- Daily meditation (been slacking on that one!)

- Stretching daily... with aspirations of jogging (!!)

Of course who knows what the next curveball life will throw at us but in the meantime I'm strengthening the foundation so I can be my most resilient when it arrives. It all starts with intention, and how we choose to spend our free time. Life can get busy with work, children and everything else that comes our way, but there's *always* ways to reclaim some time from habits that that aren't serving us. And it's a worthwhile pursuit; after all, time is our most limited resource 🌞

Who Is Dougie Lux

Dougie Lux is the alter ego of experience designer Douglas Campbell, cofounder of the Los Angeles event series MindshareLA and tech collective Syyn Labs. After a yoga course in southeast Asia left him questioning his existence, Douglas returned to the states and began a three year identity experiment; he changed his name to Dougie Lux, left his flashy life in Southern California and moved up to a wilderness community in Southern Oregon called Trillium, where he learned carpentry and began restoring an old, off-the-grid cabin. In his proudest achievement, Dougie finally settled down enough to write a book; The Motorcycle & The Molecule is a novel about his journey to Oregon and subsequent explorations of Central America during the winter of 2018.

Douglas Campbell lives on as an experience designer and event producer on the West Coast of the United States; Dougie Lux continues to explore his untapped capabilities …while getting away with things that Douglas Campbell would probably never admit to doing.
